Email lists
We run two email list both of which are open to all members, to be included in these lists please contact the committee.
rospasmartannounce@yahoogroups.com
This email list is used for us to let you know of forthcoming events, last minute changes to scheduled events and generally to keep you up to date with what is going on in the group. You are not able to post messages on this group, this can only be done by the moderators, you can however reply to the author of any message posted.
Everyone should be on this list so that we can keep you in touch with upcoming events etc - traffic probably no more than 1 message a week.
This is the general email list and is for chit chat, discussion, for sale items, banter etc. Subscription to this list may not be suitable for some work email accounts due to both the amount of traffic (from 1 or 2 a day up to 10 or more a day) and its unmoderated content. We would ask you to consider the following guidelines when using this list.
General email usage and guidelines.
The general email list gives members an easy way of communicating with each other to exchange any views on motorcycling and related matters. In order for it to work well it needs all those who use it to remember where the sent emails end up.
With over 180 people signed up to the group it has the potential to get pretty busy, You are writing to a large group of people, most of whom you may not know and you must take this into consideration.
Some members have a PC at home for their own use or share a PC with other members of the family, others use a terminal at work. Once emails are posted it cannot be ruled out that they will not be read by other family members or work colleagues, so the language used needs to suit all these circumstances.
In order to keep the email group vibrant and interesting to most of us the majority of emails do need to be directed to the membership as a whole. However to help keep the volume of general email to a manageable level please bear the following in mind:
- It is better to email a member directly (not via the group email) when for example buying something for sale or arranging a meeting with them.
- It is better to email a small number of members directly (not via the group email) when arranging a specific event only that group is involved in, for example when arranging a track day or a wizz
- Exchanging views on this e-group has long been enjoyed by many of us and can be a useful way of passing on advice or an opinion but we all need to recognise the difference between a debate and a row, and consider what the group is about and what it represents.
Yahoo! Account
If you create a Yahoo account you can access the groups web features which include:
- Message management -- easily control the frequency of email messages you receive.
- Membership management -- easily join or leave groups, all in one place.
- Get access to message archives, photos, files, calendars, polls and more.
- Change the email address messages are sent to (please inform the committee if you do this).
